MESQUITE, Texas — The Mesquite Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one teenager dead and another critically injured inside a residence in the 1500 block of Rusk Drive early Monday morning.
Officers responded to the home at approximately 12:51 a.m. on July 28, 2025, following a report of a shooting. According to police, two juvenile males, ages 15 and 16, were inside a bedroom when an adult resident of the home heard gunshots. Upon entering the room, the adult discovered both teens had been shot.
The 16-year-old male, who lived at the residence, was pronounced deceased at a local hospital. The 15-year-old remains in critical condition.
Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Police said the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no known threat to the public.
The investigation is ongoing.
