Prior to the formation of his firm, Mr. Mahoney was a partner with the firm of Cozen O’Connor. His legal experience is in a variety of civil litigation areas, including business, insurance subrogation, worker’s compensation, and professional malpractice cases.
He served our great country for 22 years in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve. Now a retired Captain, Mahoney started as a Private in the infantry and worked his way up to First Sergeant in Civil Affairs. He achieved the rank of Captain in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps before retiring. His deployments included Operation Desert Storm in Iraq and Operation Joint Endeavor in Bosnia. He was instrumental in drafting Bosnia’s election law as Legal Advisor to the Bosnia Election Commission.
Mr. Mahoney also serves his community having served as a Commissioner on the Irving Building and Standards Commission for six years. During his time on the Commission, he successfully pressed for the demolition of dozens of substandard buildings that have resulted in improved conditions and the jump starting of redevelopment in core areas of Irving. He is a strong advocate of responsible growth and understands the need for a greater vision for Irving due to the many competing development projects. As a former member of Irving’s Green Advisory Committee, he also understands the importance of increasing efficiency and sustainability in the city’s operations. Significant projects of this committee have included Irving building the first net-zero library and increasing the number of green spaces and parks within the city. Under his leadership as Board Vice Chairman of the Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce, Irving established the region’s only active Transportation Management Association, which has led to such projects as the completion of DART’s Orange Line connecting Las Colinas to DFW Airport. He is also a past board member of the Irving Symphony Orchestra. In February of this year, he announced his candidacy for the Irving City Council, Place 6.
He is a 1993 graduate of Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. He graduated from the Texas Tech School of Law in 1996. During law school, he worked as a misdemeanor clerk for the Lubbock County District Attorney’s office, trying 22 criminal jury trials.
