Fort Worth Police, Downtown Group Launch New Plan to Combat Excessive Vehicle Noise

FORT WORTH, TX – The Fort Worth Police Department and Public Improvement District #1 (PID #1) have announced a new plan to address the issue of excessive vehicle noise downtown. The initiative, in partnership with Downtown Fort Worth, Inc., will focus on deliberate engine revving, modified exhausts, and overly loud sound systems to ensure a more peaceful environment for residents, businesses, and visitors.

The plan combines public awareness, enhanced enforcement, and deterrence strategies to maintain a positive and respectful downtown atmosphere.

"There is a trend of modifying car and motorcycle exhaust systems and sound systems to be extraordinarily loud," said Andy Taft, President of Downtown Fort Worth, Inc. "These vehicles are violating Fort Worth noise ordinances and making it difficult for people to sleep, work, and dine in peace. Our focus is specifically targeted to educate people about the issue and discourage intentional, excessive noise."

The initiative includes three key components:

  • Education: Informing the public that downtown is a diverse neighborhood with a significant number of residents, hotels, office spaces, and schools, and that excessive vehicle noise has become an unacceptable disruption.

  • Strategic Signage: Installing signs at key entrances to downtown to remind drivers that excessive noise, including engine revving, is prohibited and that ordinances will be enforced.

  • Enhanced Enforcement: The Fort Worth Police Department will increase targeted patrols downtown to focus on excessively loud vehicles.

PID #1's ongoing efforts already include sound monitoring in key areas and research into advanced technologies like license plate and decibel readers to support future enforcement. The Fort Worth Police Department stated that its goal is to address excessive engine revving that disrupts the peace through a combination of enforcement and community engagement.
