Elderly Man with Warrants Dies by Suicide During Fort Worth Police Stop

FORT WORTH, TX – A man with multiple felony warrants died by suicide on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, after shooting himself in his vehicle during a felony stop by Fort Worth Police.

At 4:06 p.m., Fort Worth Police Central units were called to 3300 E. Belknap Street to assist a private investigator who was attempting to arrest a subject with outstanding felony warrants. When officers located the individual, identified as Melvin Franklin Pardue, Jr., 77, and initiated a felony stop with lights and sirens, Pardue shot himself inside his vehicle.

Fort Worth Police immediately provided life-saving measures and notified EMS, but the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner has determined the cause of death as suicide. Pardue had a criminal history in Parker County. The Major Case Unit, in conjunction with Internal Affairs, is continuing the investigation, which is standard procedure in such incidents.
