Dallas, TX – On August 28, 2025, Dallas Police Central Business District (CBD) officers on bike patrol encountered a mother and her two young sons sitting on a bench in the 1000 block of Main Street. The officers quickly learned the family had recently lost their housing and were struggling to find shelter for themselves and their few belongings.
Recognizing the urgency, officers immediately contacted the City’s Office of Emergency Management and Crisis Response. Working together with Family Gateway, they secured shelter for the mother and her children as well as storage for their possessions.
When asked if they had eaten, the mother admitted their last meal had been the day before and that she had no money for food. One of the officers personally purchased meals for the family before transporting them to Family Gateway for further assistance.
“I commend these officers and our partners at Emergency Management and Crisis Response for the compassion and professionalism shown toward this family,” said Major John Madison, commander of the Central Business District Patrol Division. “While this incident did not involve a criminal matter, it represents the commitment our CBD division has toward serving all members of the downtown and CBD area.”
