Red Hat Society Chapter #8634, better known as the Frisky Foxy Jewels, kicked off their 10th anniversary celebration with a terrific calendar of classy and classic Irving scenes. Proceeds of the calendar sales were split between the DFW Humane Society and Irving Cares.
Several “Frisky Foxy Jewels” volunteer at Irving Cares, providing hope to community members struggling to make ends meet. The Queen Mother, Mitty Mohon, and several of her calendar girls recently delivered a five hundred dollar check to Irving Cares in time to meet the $25,000 challenge match, doubling their fight against hunger in Irving.
Pat Catron (December calendar girl) says, “I really enjoy the people I volunteer with and filling client food orders at Irving Cares. It makes me feel useful in retirement.”
Patti Huson (October calendar girl), conducts case work at Irving Cares and gets to know the personal stories behind what brings people to the agency. She says she enjoys knowing what she does is helping people in need. “Sometimes it’s hard to hear their stories, because there are so many people in need, and nobody wants to be where they are; it’s often a matter of circumstances. It always pleases me to hear people say that when they get back on their feet they are going to give back, too. I know I’m giving back to my community in a small way,” Huson said.
“No action is too small,” confirms the agency’s CEO, Teddie Story. “Every volunteer who serves, every donor that gives, whether it’s a can of tuna, $20, or a check with a comma on it, is making Irving a better place for all of us.”
As a United Way social services agency assisting Irving residents who are experiencing a temporary crisis situation, Irving Cares greatly appreciates the continued support of the community. In 1957, volunteers proclaimed “Cooperation is the answer!” Today, 55 years later, volunteers are still the answer as Irving Cares serves the equivalent of 19% of the City’s population, and the need continues to increase.
About the Frisky Foxy Jewels:
Chapter 8634 was founded in 2002 by Mitty Mohon. They are a sisterhood of The Red Hat Society and have fun while volunteering at a variety of community charitable organizations.
They are an active chapter who contribute daily to the City of Irving. These ladies range in age from the 40’s to the 90’s and if you want to see that age is never a factor, just watch these “Frisky Foxy Jewels” – they are never idle. Must have “Smiles,” “Lots of Laughter,” and a “Positive Attitude” to be a member of this chapter.
About Irving Cares:
Ensuring that the most basic human needs are met is an important measure of a city’s quality of life. It is what Irving citizens believed when they founded Irving Cares 55 years ago, and it is still true today. Since 1957, Irving Cares has offered a hand up, not a handout, for Irving families in crisis. Irving Cares promotes client self-sufficiency providing a food pantry, limited financial assistance for rent, mortgage, utilities, and prescriptions; employment services; transportation to medical facilities, and information and referral.
