DALLAS — The Dallas Police Department has officially launched Academy Class 408, one of the largest in the department’s history. The class includes 77 officer trainees — 75 new hires and 2 rehires — making it the second-largest class ever assembled, behind only Class 368 in 2019, which had 82 trainees.
Class 408 is also notable for its diversity. Of the 77 trainees, 20 are female, marking the second-highest number of female recruits in a single Dallas Police Academy class. Several members also bring valuable military experience, including six former U.S. Marines and four former U.S. Army members.
“I am proud of the department’s efforts to attract recruits that represent a cross section of the community,” said Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert. “This is an important step toward meeting our police hiring goals and honoring public safety as one of our residents’ top priorities.”
The department has made significant progress in the 2024-2025 fiscal year, hiring a total of 329 applicants, including eight officers who returned after serving with other agencies.
“Our team exceeded our hiring goal to close out this fiscal year because people around the country, and around the world, want to come to work for the most proactive police department in America,” said Dallas Police Chief Daniel C. Comeaux. “We’re making Dallas the safest big city, and these recruits want to help make that happen.”
Training for the new class will last ten months, preparing these men and women to serve the Dallas community with honor and dedication.
