Barricaded Gunman Arrested After Exchanging Fire with Lewisville Police; Deceased Woman Found in Room

LEWISVILLE, Texas—A suicide threat escalated into an early morning standoff that involved an armed man exchanging gunfire with Lewisville Police officers and ended with the discovery of a deceased woman inside his room.

The incident began shortly after 3 a.m. on Thursday, October 2, when Lewisville Police Department (LPD) officers responded to a call in the 2100 block of South State Highway 121 Business. Callers reported an adult male was threatening suicide and actively threatening to kill those around him.

Gunfire and Standoff

  • The suspect was confirmed to be armed with a handgun, and callers reported he may have shot an adult woman inside his room before officers arrived.

  • Upon arrival, the suspect fired at officers but retreated before they could return fire.

  • LPD requested an armored vehicle (a BEARCAT). As the vehicle arrived, the suspect reappeared and fired again, striking the BEARCAT. Officers returned fire, though it is unknown if the suspect was hit. He then retreated back into the building.

  • LPD contacted regional SWAT assets to assist with the situation.

SWAT negotiators were eventually able to get the suspect to surrender, and he was taken into custody at 8:05 a.m. He appeared to have gunshot injuries, though their source—self-inflicted or officer gunfire—is currently unknown.

Upon entering the room, officers discovered a deceased adult female. Her identity is being withheld pending release by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. No officers or other civilians were injured during the incident.

Investigations Underway

The suspect will face an investigation by the LPD Criminal Investigations Division (CID) regarding his actions against officers and the circumstances surrounding the deceased woman. He is expected to face multiple charges.

As is standard procedure for any deadly force incident, two separate investigations are underway:

  1. The Texas Rangers are conducting an independent criminal investigation into the officers' use of deadly force.

  2. The LPD Internal Affairs Unit is conducting an administrative investigation to ensure the officers' actions complied with department policies.

The officers involved have been placed on critical incident leave.
