Stage 1 Watering Guidelines Now in Effect for Irving

The City of Irving has returned to its standard summer water management plan with the adoption of Stage 1 irrigation guidelines. All Stage 1 watering guidelines are voluntary with the exception of the clause that prohibits irrigation from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on any day. Effective immediately, Irving water customers are encouraged to voluntarily conserve water by adhering to the following Stage 1 watering guidelines:

  • Irrigate landscaped areas on a twice-weekly schedule and not between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Addresses with even numbers are asked to water on Tuesdays and Saturdays only.
  • Addresses with odd numbers are asked to water on Wednesdays and Sundays only.
  • A hand-held garden hose, soaker hose, bucket or drip irrigation system can be used at any time.
  • Water customers are encouraged to practice water conservation and to minimize or discontinue water use for non-essential purposes.

Although strong compliance from Irving’s residential and business communities has prevented the effects of this year’s drought from carrying over into the summer months, city officials are still advocating for water conservation.

“The city’s collaboration with residents and businesses to conserve water during the drought has yielded great results that have enabled us to return to our standard water conservation guidelines,” said Water Utilities Director Todd Reck. “It is especially important that residents and businesses remain water-conscious in the summer months, and heed the advice of experts who suggest that watering twice weekly is enough to maintain healthy and vibrant lawns.”

The restriction that prevents watering from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. is in effect from April 1 to Oct. 31; violators are subject to fines of up to $2,000 per violation. Citations also will be issued for malfunctioning irrigation systems.
