Suspect Shot and Arrested After High-Speed Chase and Carjacking Attempt in Jacksboro

JACKSBORO, Texas – A suspect was taken into custody early Sunday after an attempted carjacking, a stolen vehicle report, and a high-speed pursuit that ended in an officer-involved shooting, according to the Jack County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 12:45 a.m. on Nov. 23, deputies responded to a report of a possible armed robbery at Mr. Cut Rate gas station in Jacksboro. Investigators determined the incident was an attempted carjacking and that a shot had been fired.

While officers searched for the suspect, a second call came in reporting a stolen vehicle. Deputies and Jacksboro Police officers located the vehicle and began a pursuit. The suspect fled at speeds over 100 miles per hour and drove into oncoming traffic in an effort to hit other motorists.

Due to the danger to the public, a deputy was authorized to disable the vehicle by shooting its tires. After the tire was struck, the suspect turned down a dead-end dirt road and crashed. The suspect then fired at law enforcement, and two Sheriff’s Office employees along with a Jacksboro Police officer returned fire, hitting the suspect.

The suspect suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was flown to Fort Worth for treatment. No officers were injured.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the officer-involved shooting, which is standard procedure.
