Independence Day Weekend DWI Enforcement

The Irving Police Department will be conducting a DWI No-Refusal Operation from June 30-July 1. The operation is in conjunction with the State’s “Drink. Drive. Go to Jail.” campaign. The Department will have additional officers on duty with the primary purpose of locating and arresting impaired drivers. These officers will be patrolling throughout the City to ensure compliance through visibility and enforcement. Troopers from the Department of Public Safety will be partnering with the Irving Police Department in an effort to increase the number of officers looking for impaired drivers. This will be the first No-Refusal operation where the two agencies have teamed up in order to increase visibility and enforcement.

During this holiday weekend, the officers and troopers will be utilizing a no-refusal approach to DWI enforcement. When a person is arrested for DWI, they will be offered a blood test (no breath test will be offered). If anyone refuses to provide a blood sample, a judge will be present in order to authorize a warrant for a blood draw.

The goal of the operation is to keep drivers safe as they travel through Irving. Driving impaired is simply not worth it, so don’t take the chance.
