800 New Jobs Coming to Irving

On Tuesday of this week, UnitedHealth Group announced it’s plans to add 800 jobs in Irving Texas and 1500 jobs total in the entire state. The 800 new Irving Texas jobs will be added at their Irving location which will handle claims processing and prescriptions.

The announcement was made at a news conference attended by Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Stephen J. Hemsley, CEO of UnitedHealth Group, at their new facility at 5150 Regent Boulevard next to Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport.

The expectations are to be fully staffed by December 2013.

“This is an employer that knows Texas and knows Texans,” Perry said in a news release. “They’ve witnessed first-hand what we have to offer, and as a result, they’re continuing to invest their future in the Lone Star State. This vote of confidence affirms our efforts to create a jobs-friendly climate that will attract and keep employers like UnitedHealth Group here in Texas.”

Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne was also present at the news conference.

"We could not be more pleased," Van Duyne said. "Earlier this year, we had a number of announcements of company's closing offices and with announcement of these 800 new jobs combined with Christus Health's announcement that will bring nearly 1,200 new jobs - I think it's a fair assessment to say Texas is doing better, and the business environment in Irving is thriving."

In addition to the 800 jobs in Irving, UnitedHealth Group businesses announced 330 jobs in the Houston area at Optum’s pharmacy benefit management business, 250 jobs in San Antonio and 115 jobs in Harlingen being created by UnitedHealthcare, UnitedHealth Group’s health benefits business.

UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) is a diversified health care company headquartered in Minnetonka, Minn.
