During this past Independence Day weekend, the Irving Police Department participated in a statewide Impaired Driving Mobilization grant. The grant is in conjunction with the State’s “Drink. Drive. Go to Jail.” campaign. The grant allows the Department to have additional officers on duty with the primary purpose of locating and arresting impaired drivers. In combination with the grant, the Department also conducted a No-Refusal Operation. Troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety also participated in the operation. By partnering with the troopers, visibility and enforcement were greatly enhanced leading to a successful operation. The partnership between the Irving Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety emphasizes each agencies commitment to identifying and arresting those who choose to drive while intoxicated.
A total of 32 arrests were made for driving while intoxicated. Eleven additional arrests were made for nonalcohol related charges. The Grand Prairie Police Department also utilized the Department’s no refusal process and brought in 4 people for blood draws who were suspected of driving while intoxicated.
The Irving Police Department will continue to partner with the Department of Public Safety, TxDOT and local law enforcement agencies in an effort to make our roadways safe.
