DALLAS, TX - Damon Johnson, 51, a multi-convicted felon, was sentenced to 200 months in federal prison for a violent bank robbery in Garland, Texas. Johnson, who pled guilty in May 2025, robbed the PNC Bank on North Glenbrook Drive on November 14, 2024.
Court documents show that during the robbery, Johnson grabbed a customer from behind, held her hostage, and pointed a firearm at a teller, demanding $3,900 from the register. He fled on foot but was quickly arrested in December 2024.
Johnson’s criminal history played a major role in the sentencing. He had previously served 130 months for possession with intent to distribute cocaine and a 10-year federal sentence for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. At the time of the Garland robbery, he was on supervised release for these prior offenses. Judge Jane Boyle also noted his 1991 Michigan assault conviction, which involved a violent sexual assault, along with other drug and firearm offenses.
“The swift actions of FBI Dallas Violent Crime Task Force agents took this violent repeat offender off the streets,” said U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould. FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge R. Joseph Rothrock added that the case highlights the ongoing efforts of federal and local law enforcement to combat violent crime in North Texas.
The investigation was led by the FBI Dallas Violent Crimes Task Force, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Marissa Aulbaugh.
