Woman Dies After Being Pulled From Burning East Fort Worth Home

FORT WORTH, TX - A woman died Wednesday after firefighters pulled her from a burning home in east Fort Worth, despite rapid rescue efforts and emergency medical care, according to the Fort Worth Fire Department.

At approximately 11:50 a.m. on December 31, the Fort Worth Fire Department Alarm Office received multiple 911 calls reporting a house fire in the 4600 block of Shackleford Street. Callers indicated that two people were believed to be trapped inside the home.

Fire crews arrived within two minutes of dispatch and encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from a one-story residence. Firefighters immediately deployed a hose line to attack the fire while other crews entered the home to search for the reported occupants.

Within about one minute of beginning their search, firefighters located a female resident inside the structure and quickly removed her from the home. Emergency medical care was provided at the scene, and CareFlite was placed on standby.

Crews reentered the house to search for a second resident but were unable to locate anyone else inside. During the search, firefighters found the family’s animals, but three dogs were unable to be saved. Firefighters also searched three additional structures on the property to ensure no other residents were inside and confirmed that the second resident was not in the home at the time of the fire.

The fire was brought under control within approximately 15 minutes. Despite extensive life-saving efforts, the woman later died from her injuries at the hospital.

Fire investigators are continuing to examine the cause of the fire. Fort Worth fire officials extended their condolences to the victim’s family and friends as the investigation continues.
