FORT WORTH, TX – Fort Worth firefighters quickly contained a fire at a historic home in the Crestline area on Tuesday afternoon, preventing major damage and ensuring no one was hurt.

Just after 2:30 p.m. on January 6, the Fort Worth Fire Department Alarm Office received multiple reports of a house fire in the 1800 block of Western Avenue. Engine 18 arrived on scene in less than a minute and found smoke coming from the eaves of the two-and-a-half-story wooden home.

Crews worked swiftly, opening the first and second floors and the attic to access fire hidden in the void spaces. Containing the flames and preventing spread through the large, historic home was critical. The fire was under control within 20 minutes.

The home, a 124-year-old landmark once part of Camp Bowie, has strong ties to the history of Arlington Heights. Investigators are still determining the cause of the fire.

Probationary fire recruits from the Fort Worth Fire Academy were on scene and could be identified by yellow helmets with a “P100” badge on the front. These are the probationary fire recruits that are currently in the Fort Worth Fire Department Fire Academy. The recruits gained real-world experience under the guidance of seasoned firefighters as part of their training with the 11th largest fire department in the country.

No injuries were reported, and the home was preserved thanks to the fast and coordinated response.
