Former Sanger ISD Police Officer Arrested on Multiple Child Sex Charges

Israel Demello

SANGER, TX - A former Sanger Independent School District police officer has been arrested and jailed on multiple felony charges involving alleged sexual misconduct with a student, authorities said.

The Sanger Police Department arrested Israel Demello, 26, of Denton on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. Demello was booked into the Denton County Jail on charges of sexual assault of a child, sexual performance by a child, improper relationship between educator and student, and indecency with a child involving sexual contact.

The investigation began on the afternoon of November 19, 2025, when Sanger police were notified of allegations that Demello had an inappropriate relationship with a student enrolled in the Sanger Independent School District. Police immediately notified district officials, and Demello was placed on administrative leave the following morning.

Sanger police conducted a criminal investigation through their Criminal Investigation Division, with assistance from digital forensic investigators from the Denton County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said the school district cooperated fully throughout the investigation.

Following the investigation, arrest warrants were issued by the Denton County Magistrate’s Court. Demello is no longer employed by Sanger ISD.

In a letter sent to parents, Superintendent Dr. Tommy Hunter said the district acted swiftly once concerns were reported and emphasized student safety as the district’s top priority. “Please be assured that the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority,” Hunter wrote, adding that the district will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement.

Police are asking anyone with information related to the case to contact the Sanger Police Department at 940-458-7444 or email CID@sangertexas.org.
