Motorcyclist Killed in Celina Hit-and-Run; Driver Arrested on Felony Charges

CELINA, Texas - A 68-year-old man has been arrested and charged after a hit-and-run crash that left a motorcyclist dead Tuesday afternoon in Celina, according to the Celina Police Department.

Just after 2 p.m. on Feb. 3, Celina police officers responded to a major crash in the 15500 block of FM 428 near Creekview Meadows Avenue. When officers arrived, they found the motorcyclist unconscious and unresponsive.

Witnesses told police the driver of a black Dodge 3500 dually pickup truck fled the scene without stopping or rendering aid. Officers later located the vehicle and identified the driver as Mario Aguilar, 68. Aguilar was taken into custody and arrested.

Police said Aguilar is charged with collision involving personal injury or death, a second-degree felony under Texas Transportation Code 550.021, and criminally negligent homicide, a state jail felony under Texas Penal Code 19.05.

Under Texas law, drivers involved in crashes resulting in injury or death are required to immediately stop, check on those involved, provide or arrange medical assistance, and remain at the scene to exchange required information. Criminally negligent homicide applies when a person causes the death of another by failing to recognize or disregarding a substantial and unjustifiable risk.

The Celina Police Department said the motorcyclist died as a result of the crash. No additional details about the victim have been released.

Police extended their condolences to the family and friends affected by the incident, calling it a tragic loss.
