NRH Police Use Drone and Negotiations to Arrest Armed Driver After Pursuit Ends in Crash on Loop 820

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - A 33-year-old man from Hurst was taken into custody late Wednesday morning after a vehicle pursuit ended in a crash on the westbound Loop 820 toll lanes near Holiday Lane, police said.

Officers attempted to stop a white sedan around 11 a.m. after observing the vehicle deliberately swerving across multiple lanes of traffic. The driver failed to stop, leading officers through Hurst and Bedford with assistance from surrounding agencies. Police discontinued the pursuit once the vehicle entered Loop 820 due to safety concerns related to the toll roadway.

Minutes later, the sedan crashed near Holiday Lane. Officers responded to the scene and deployed a drone to assist in safely taking the driver into custody. Using the drone, officers observed the man leaning back in the driver’s seat with his hand inside a backpack. A firearm was later located inside the bag.

Police said the man refused to comply with commands, prompting officers to begin negotiations. After a brief standoff, the suspect climbed out of the vehicle window but continued to ignore instructions. Officers then deployed a less-lethal option and safely took him into custody.

Authorities credited the arrest to coordinated police work, negotiations, and the use of less-lethal tactics. Assistance was provided by the Bedford Police Department, the Haltom City Police Department, and the Hurst Police Department.

The man will be booked into the NRH Joint Detention Facility. Charges are pending, and his name and booking photo will not be released until after his initial court appearance.
