Driver Critically Injured After Fiery Crash Into Utility Pole in Garland

GARLAND, TX - A driver is in critical condition after crashing into a utility pole and becoming trapped inside a burning vehicle Thursday morning in Garland, authorities said.

Just after 11 a.m. February 12, crews from Garland Fire Department Engine 6 were en route to another call when they encountered a single-vehicle crash in the 6200 block of North Shiloh Road. The car had struck a utility pole and caught fire with the driver still inside.

Firefighters stopped and removed the driver from the burning vehicle before extinguishing the flames. The driver, who was the sole occupant, was transported to a local hospital and remains in critical condition.

No firefighters were injured during the response.

Garland police traffic investigators are handling the case. Preliminary information indicates speed may have been a factor.
