IRVING, Texas - A late-night street racing crash in Irving has left a 58-year-old grandmother dead and two teenagers facing criminal charges.
On Sunday, February 15, 2026, at approximately 10:08 p.m., Irving Police dispatch began receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a major accident in the 1600 block of North Story Road near the Irving Boulevard intersection. Call notes indicated that two vehicles had been racing prior to the crash, with a white vehicle striking a black vehicle.
Responding patrol officers arrived to find significant damage to both vehicles and one occupant suffering life-threatening injuries. A crash investigation unit was called to the scene.
Investigators determined that a black BMW, driven by 58-year-old Lorena Garcia, was traveling westbound across the lanes of North Story Road from a private driveway when it was T-boned by a white Acura traveling southbound.
Initial crash evidence, including the distance the vehicles traveled after impact and the severity of the intrusion into the BMW, indicated the Acura was traveling at a speed far exceeding the posted 35 mph limit.
Traffic camera footage reviewed by investigators showed the Acura and a white Toyota Camry stopped side-by-side at a red light at State Highway 183 before accelerating forward when the light turned green.
Garcia was transported to Parkland Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. A passenger in the Acura was also injured.
The driver of the Acura, identified as 17-year-old Jose Geovanny Torres-Alvarado, remained at the scene. The driver of the Toyota Camry, identified as 18-year-old Melvin Saravia, also remained nearby waiting for investigators.
Both drivers told investigators they were traveling from Victoria Park to Planet Fitness on Irving Boulevard to pick up a friend and admitted they were attempting to reach their destination faster than the other. According to investigators, both acknowledged racing, speeding, and passing other vehicles while traveling southbound on Story Road.
Both Torres-Alvarado and Saravia were arrested and booked into the Irving Jail before being transferred to the Dallas County Jail. They have been charged with Racing on Highway Causing Bodily Injury and Racing on Highway Causing Serious Bodily Injury.
Garcia, originally from Manzanillo, Colima, Mexico, is survived by her husband, two adult children, and eight grandchildren. She will be laid to rest at Grand Prairie Memorial Gardens.
