Two Charged in 2019 Killing of Missing Fort Hood Soldier After Six-Year Investigation

Victim: Gregory Wedel-Morales

KILLEEN, Texas - Two suspects have been charged in the murder of Fort Hood soldier Gregory Wedel-Morales, bringing a breakthrough in a case that began with a missing person report nearly six years ago, Killeen police announced.

Gregory Wedel-Morales was reported missing to the Killeen Police Department on Aug. 23, 2019. The department’s Criminal Investigation Division and Robbery-Homicide Unit worked jointly with Fort Hood’s Criminal Investigation Division to investigate the disappearance.

On June 21, 2020, skeletal remains were identified as Wedel-Morales with assistance from Fort Hood investigators and the U.S. Army Dental Corps. After an autopsy determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the head and ruled the manner of death a homicide, the Killeen Police Department assumed primary responsibility for the investigation.

Darius Nobles and Darion Brown

Following years of investigative work, detectives identified Darius Demarcus Nobles, 28, and Darion Lequan Brown, 27, as suspects. The Bell County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and formally accepted murder charges against both men on Dec. 30, 2025.

Justice of the Peace Nicola James issued arrest warrants the same day. Brown was served with the warrant while already in custody at the Parker County Jail on unrelated charges.

Nobles was arrested Feb. 23, 2026, by members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force in Harris County and is currently being held without bond.

Killeen police credited multiple agencies for assisting in the investigation, including Fort Hood Criminal Investigation Division, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Rangers, the San Saba County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Task Force, and the Bell County District Attorney’s Office.
