The Irving Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind residents to use basic crime prevention techniques. Investigators have noticed that 60 percent of residential burglaries that have occurred in the last few weeks were at homes that were unsecure; meaning either a door or window was left unlocked allowing the suspect easy access into the residence. We ask that residents take extra effort to ensure that all entry points to their homes are secured, alarm systems are activated (if equipped), and any hiding areas around the homes are eliminated (trim high shrubs, etc.). These offenses are often crimes of opportunity that can be prevented. Don’t make your home an easy target of opportunity.
Residents are urged to call the police if they see someone or something suspicious.
