DENTON, Texas — Denton police have arrested two suspects in connection with an overnight shooting that left a man dead early Saturday morning, March 14th.
According to the Denton Police Department, officers responded at approximately 12:41 a.m. on March 14, 2026, to a report of a shooting in the 400 block of East Prairie Street.
When officers arrived, they found a male victim lying in the middle of the street with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Officers immediately began lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived at the scene.
Witnesses told investigators that 39-year-old Edwin Cain approached the victim in the street and began arguing with him. The verbal dispute reportedly escalated into a physical altercation.
During the confrontation, 20-year-old Joy Jones exited a vehicle and allegedly fired multiple rounds, striking the victim.
Both suspects fled the scene but were later identified by witnesses, who told police the victim had previous incidents involving Cain and Jones.
The victim was transported to a hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 48-year-old Dwayne Maurice Darden.
Police later located and arrested both suspects. Cain and Jones have been charged with Murder and are currently being held at the City of Denton Jail. Bond had not yet been set at the time of the report.
The investigation remains ongoing.
