Dallas Secures $51.5 Million in Federal Funding for World Cup Security Preparations

DALLAS, Texas — The federal government has awarded more than $51.5 million to Dallas to support security efforts ahead of the FIFA World Cup, with officials outlining plans to strengthen public safety and operational readiness across the city.

Of the total funding, more than $22 million is designated to ensure full preparation to protect Dallas at the highest level during the international event.

City officials said more than $1.3 million will be used for equipment aimed at enhancing operational capabilities. Planned upgrades include expanding the city’s camera network, increasing portable anti-ramming barricades, deploying utility vehicles for rapid response, and securing leased vehicles to support the scale of the tournament.

The department also received more than $10 million through a separate grant focused on drone mitigation technology, which officials said will help address potential threats from unmanned aerial systems and improve safety across event venues.

Funding allocations include nearly $880,000 for additional cameras, almost $258,000 for portable anti-ramming barricades, $67,107 for two Polaris Ranger utility vehicles, and $72,000 for leased vehicles to be used during the tournament.

“We are excited to welcome the world to Dallas for this historic international event,” said Dallas Police Chief Daniel C. Comeaux. “This moment is not just for our city, but for our entire region to showcase who we are.”
