LEWISVILLE, Texas - A 36-year-old woman was arrested on an Injury to Elderly charge after police said cellphone video captured her confronting and striking a 72-year-old woman at a Lewisville park.
Shaquala Nicole Rice, 36, was taken into custody by Lewisville Police officers on Aug. 11 in connection with an incident reported in June. Her bond was set at $7,500, according to case information.
The investigation began June 23 when a Lewisville detective was assigned case 26-05295 involving an alleged injury to an elderly person.
The 72-year-old victim told police she had been assaulted by a woman she knew as "Poo Poo," whom investigators later identified as Rice.
According to the investigation, the victim said she did not know Rice would be at the park when she went there. She told police Rice had caused problems with her previously and that she did not understand why Rice appeared to dislike her.
The woman said that whenever the two encountered one another, Rice would approach her in a similar confrontational manner.
Cellphone Video Allegedly Captured Confrontation
During the June 23 encounter, the victim began recording the incident with her cellphone, according to police.
Investigators said Rice approached the 72-year-old in what the detective described as an irate manner and struck her, knocking the cellphone from her hand and onto the ground.
The victim reported that the impact caused pain that traveled from her hand up her arm.
She called 911, retrieved her phone and left the immediate area to meet responding Lewisville Police officers.
The detective later reviewed the cellphone recording and reported that it clearly showed Rice approaching the woman and striking her, causing the phone to fall to the ground.
The victim told investigators that the incident was not the first time Rice had allegedly gone after her.
On June 29 at approximately 2:15 p.m., the woman responded to a text message from the detective and confirmed that she wanted to pursue criminal charges. She also told the detective that she felt threatened by Rice.
Based on the investigation and video evidence, authorities obtained a warrant for Rice's arrest.
