AUBREY, Texas - A driver had to be extricated from an overturned vehicle that plunged into a creek Wednesday evening following a multi-vehicle crash on FM 1385 near Aubrey, according to the Aubrey Police Department.
Police and Aubrey Fire Department crews were dispatched at approximately 6:25 p.m. on Aug. 19 to FM 1385 south of FM 428 after receiving reports of a crash involving multiple vehicles.
Emergency crews were told that one of the vehicles had overturned in a small creek and its driver was trapped inside.
When first responders arrived, they extricated the driver from the vehicle and immediately began lifesaving measures. Police have not released the driver's condition or identified anyone involved in the crash.
Police Say Northbound Vehicle Crossed Into Oncoming Traffic
A preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle traveling northbound on FM 1385 failed to maintain a single lane and crossed into the southbound lanes.
The vehicle initially collided with a southbound vehicle before striking a guardrail, according to police.
It then collided head-on with a second vehicle traveling southbound.
The force of that collision sent the second southbound vehicle over the guardrail and into the creek, where it became submerged in water.
Authorities have not said what caused the northbound driver to leave the proper lane or whether speed, impairment or another factor is suspected.
Hazmat Crews Called After Oil and Gas Leak Into Creek
The crash also prompted an environmental response after oil and gasoline began leaking from the submerged vehicle into the creek.
Hazmat crews were called to the scene to address the spill.
Multiple law enforcement and emergency agencies assisted Aubrey Police and firefighters with the response, including the Pilot Point Police Department, Pilot Point ISD Police Department, Denton County Sheriff's Office and Celina Police Department.
The Aubrey Police Department said the investigation remains active and that no additional information was being released Wednesday evening.
