IRVING, Texas — Dozens of Irving ISD orchestra students spent their spring break performing on one of the world’s most prestigious stages, showcasing their talent at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
A total of 68 students from Irving High School and Nimitz High School participated in the trip, accompanied by 12 parent chaperones, six district bus drivers, and three directors. The group departed early March 13 and arrived in New York the following day after a multi-state bus journey.
While in the city, students took part in a week of cultural and educational experiences, including a sunset walk through Central Park, a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and attending the Broadway production of Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre. They also visited Times Square and the Statue of Liberty.
Ahead of their performance, students worked with a professional orchestra clinician to refine their skills before taking the stage at Carnegie Hall.
“Our orchestras have worked incredibly hard over the past few years to strengthen our programs and perform at an exceptional level,” said Irving ISD High School Orchestra Director Jillian Attan. “Being invited to perform at Carnegie Hall is a powerful reminder of how dedication and perseverance can lead to extraordinary opportunities.”
Following the performance, students attended a reception with other performers and continued exploring the city.
“Experiences like this help them see just how talented they truly are,” Attan said. “Taking students beyond the familiar environments they’re used to can open their eyes to possibilities far beyond the limits they may have set for themselves.”
District officials said Irving ISD’s orchestra programs continue a long-standing tradition of performing at venues and festivals across the country, providing students with real-world learning experiences beyond the classroom.
