Fatal Crash Follows 12-Mile Police Pursuit from Fort Worth into Johnson County

FORT WORTH, Texas — A police pursuit that began in Fort Worth early Sunday morning ended in a fatal crash more than 12 miles away in Johnson County, authorities said.

Officers initially observed a vehicle around 2:34 a.m. on April 5th traveling without headlights on Interstate 35 near Rosedale. Police said the suspect vehicle struck another car and failed to stop, prompting officers to initiate a traffic stop. The driver instead fled southbound on I-35.

During the pursuit, officers reported the suspect vehicle struck a second vehicle and continued fleeing. The chase extended past Burleson, covering approximately 12 miles from the initial location.

The suspect exited I-35 at Exit 35 toward Tarver Road, where officers lost sight of the vehicle due to darkness and the vehicle continuing without headlights. Investigators believe the driver continued along the highway frontage road, also known as S. Burleson Blvd., before turning onto Tarver Road (County Road 805).

Authorities said the driver continued down the narrow roadway before losing control and crashing in the 1500 block of Tarver Road in Briaroaks, located in Johnson County. Due to the isolated and partially wooded area, officers took some time to locate the crashed vehicle.

Inside the vehicle, officers found two adult males. The passenger exited the vehicle with what appeared to be minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said no officers or other citizens reported injuries as a result of the incident.

The Fort Worth Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit and Major Case Unit are leading the investigation. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the identity of the deceased and the official cause of death.

The investigation remains ongoing.
