WHITE SETTLEMENT, Texas - Two suspects are facing charges after a series of attempted vehicle burglaries early March 1 at apartment complexes in the Westlake area, police said.
At approximately 4 a.m., officers responded to a burglary in progress call in the 8500 block of Robbins Drive at the Westlake Garden Apartments. Dispatch advised that two individuals, later identified as Aidan Chapoy and Rashaun Lewis, were seen pulling on multiple vehicle door handles.
Witnesses reported the suspects were last seen at the nearby Townhouse West Apartments in the 8500 block of La Plaza Drive.
An officer arriving at the scene spotted both suspects in the parking lot wearing dark clothing, backpacks, and face coverings. When officers attempted to detain them, both fled on foot.
After a search involving multiple officers, Chapoy was found hiding in a gated backyard and taken into custody. Lewis was not located at the scene.
Officers later reviewed security footage provided by a witness, which showed the suspects attempting to break into multiple vehicles. Several victims came forward and requested charges.
Chapoy was arrested and booked into the WSPD Jail on two counts of burglary of a motor vehicle and one count of evading arrest.
During the follow-up investigation, detectives reviewed additional surveillance footage from both apartment complexes, leading to arrest warrants for Lewis. He was later arrested by Fort Worth police and charged with two counts of burglary of a motor vehicle and one count of evading arrest with a previous conviction.
The investigation is ongoing.
