VALLEY VIEW, Texas — A man has been arrested following a shooting that left another man critically injured Sunday afternoon, according to the Cooke County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 3:31 p.m. on April 12, 2026, to a 911 call reporting an altercation between two men in the 1000 block of County Road 200.
Authorities said the altercation ended when one man shot the other with a pistol.
Deputies arrived on scene and quickly took the suspect into custody without incident. He was identified as 54-year-old Wilburn Ernest Ragon of Valley View.
The victim, identified as 43-year-old Brandon Kacey Acker, was found with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported by CareFlight helicopter to a hospital in the Denton area in very critical condition.
Ragon was booked into the Cooke County Jail and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is currently being held without bail.
Multiple agencies, including the Texas Department of Public Safety, Valley View Police Department, Cooke County EMS, and Valley View Volunteer Fire Department, assisted at the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing.
