Dallas Gang Member Sentenced in Deep Ellum Carjacking That Led to 147 MPH Police Chase

Jihad Thomas

DALLAS — A Dallas jury has convicted a documented gang member in a 2023 armed carjacking in Deep Ellum that ended with a high-speed police chase reaching 147 mph.

Jihad Thies Gorree Thomas, 27, was found guilty April 3, 2026, on two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of evading arrest with a vehicle.

Jurors sentenced Thomas to 12 years in prison for aggravated robbery and 10 years in prison for evading arrest.

According to prosecutors, Thomas and co-defendant Travion Amar Williams, 23, robbed two people at gunpoint around 2 p.m. Dec. 6, 2023, outside a popular restaurant in Deep Ellum.

Prosecutors said both men were identified as members of the 42 Oakland Crips street gang.

During the robbery, authorities said personal property was taken from one victim before Thomas chased down another victim to steal the keys to a Corvette Stingray. Prosecutors said both suspects fled in the stolen sports car.

One victim was able to provide the license plate number to police immediately, leading officers to locate the vehicle and begin a pursuit through southern Dallas County.

Authorities said Thomas reached speeds as high as 147 mph during midday traffic before he and Williams were captured about 45 minutes after the robbery.

Williams previously pleaded guilty in August 2025.

Court records show that Thomas has a pending murder case in Dallas County.

The case was prosecuted by lead prosecutor Loren Collins and second chair Krystal Biggins, with assistance from Dallas County District Attorney Investigator Lt. Michael Swain.
