DALLAS COUNTY, Texas — A Dallas County jury convicted Eusebio Contreras Cruz in a sexual assault case stemming from a first date with a woman he met through a dating app, according to prosecutors.
On March 26, 2026, a jury found Cruz guilty of one count of sexual assault. Judge Audra Riley sentenced him to 10 years in prison, probated for 10 years.
According to prosecutors, the case began in March 2024 when the victim met Cruz through a dating app and agreed to meet for a first date at Gloria’s Restaurant in Firewheel Mall in Garland.
Evidence presented at trial showed the two ordered sangria swirl margaritas while waiting for their table. Prosecutors said surveillance video showed the victim consumed four swirl margaritas before dinner was ordered.
According to testimony, the victim had little to no memory of the evening after about 10 minutes at the bar.
Prosecutors said surveillance footage from Gloria’s and from the victim’s home showed the woman appeared unsteady while walking.
Cruz told investigators the two had consensual sex at the victim’s home and later went to sleep, according to the case summary.
However, prosecutors said the victim reported she had no memory of that encounter and later recalled waking up just before midnight during what she described as a second sexual assault. Cruz denied that allegation.
The jury convicted Cruz on the first sexual assault allegation but returned a not guilty verdict on the second allegation recalled by the victim.
The case was prosecuted by Trey Stock and Deborah Bankhead, with assistance from DA Investigator Abigail Cruz and DA Victim Advocate Andriana Sellers. The Garland Police Department investigated the case.
