Missing Person Investigation Leads to Murder Arrest in Fort Worth; Coworker Charged

FORT WORTH, Texas — A missing person investigation has turned into a capital murder case after Fort Worth police say a coworker confessed to killing 31-year-old Thomas King and stealing his vehicle.

The investigation began Tuesday, April 14, 2026, when the Fort Worth Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit was notified King had not returned home after leaving work April 13.

Investigators learned King’s vehicle was later found at the Quality Inn at 121 East I-20 Frontage Road in Arlington.

Police said surveillance footage reviewed April 15 showed an unknown person arriving at the motel in King’s car shortly after King left work.

Detectives later identified the suspect as 34-year-old Gregory D. Lewis, a coworker of King’s at Taco Casa in the 1100 block of Bridgewood Drive in East Fort Worth near Interstate 820 and Interstate 30.

On April 16, homicide detectives took over the investigation.

On April 17, detectives found King’s body in an open field on the east side of Fort Worth.

Police said Lewis confessed to shooting King and stealing his vehicle.

Lewis remains in custody, and homicide detectives said they will be filing a capital murder charge.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine King’s official cause and manner of death.

The investigation remains ongoing.
