GRAPEVINE, Texas — A man has been arrested after police say he shot his neighbor Thursday afternoon, prompting a temporary security hold at several nearby schools.

According to the Grapevine Police Department, officers responded around 1:00 p.m. April 23, 2026, to the 3300 block of Wilshire Avenue following a report of a shooting.

Police said the victim was transported to a hospital with injuries. The extent of those injuries has not been released.

Authorities identified the suspect as 64-year-old Shenkoru Sleshi Meketa, who was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

As a precaution, several schools in the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District were placed on a “Secure” hold, including Heritage Elementary, Heritage Middle School, Colleyville Heritage High School, the Early Childhood Development Center, Grapevine Elementary and iUniversity Prep offices.

Officials said the secure hold was lifted by approximately 1:30 p.m., and normal operations resumed for the remainder of the day.

The following day, Meketa was transferred to the Tarrant County Jail, where he remains in custody. His bond has been set at $40,000.

Property records from the Tarrant Appraisal District indicate Meketa has lived at the Wilshire Avenue residence since March 2019.

Meketa had been employed by the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD as a bus driver.  He was fired by the school district after his arrest.  The school district also sent a letter to parents where they confirmed that Meketa drove Bus 365.

The investigation remains ongoing.
