PLANO, Texas — A 72-year-old Plano woman died Monday evening, April 27th, after being struck by a vehicle while chasing her dog across a roadway, according to Plano police.
Officers and Plano Fire-Rescue personnel responded around 7 p.m. to the 3300 block of Parkwood Boulevard for a serious injury crash involving a pedestrian. Investigators said a green Subaru Crosstrek was traveling northbound on Parkwood Parkway when the pedestrian crossed midblock, outside of a marked crosswalk, while attempting to catch her unrestrained dog.
Police said the front right of the vehicle struck the pedestrian, who sustained significant head trauma. Fire-rescue crews initiated lifesaving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities identified the victim as Beverly Doak Grimes, 72, of Plano. No other injuries were reported.
Investigators said neither speed nor intoxication are believed to be contributing factors. The dog was secured by Plano Animal Services.
The crash remains under investigation by the Plano Police Traffic Unit.
