Juvenile Killed in Fiery Crash After Police Pursuit in McKinney

MCKINNEY, Texas — A juvenile passenger was killed early Thursday morning after a police pursuit ended in a fiery crash, according to the Collin County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle around 4 a.m. after it was suspected of driving while intoxicated and nearly striking a patrol unit. Authorities said the driver refused to stop, leading deputies on a pursuit.

During the chase, the vehicle traveled at a high rate of speed and at times drove the wrong way on the roadway before crashing near Virginia Parkway and Independence Parkway.

The vehicle caught fire following the crash. Officials said the driver, a juvenile, was able to escape and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A juvenile passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Responders from the McKinney Police Department and McKinney Fire Department assisted at the scene. The McKinney Police Department is leading the crash investigation.

Investigators also determined the vehicle had been stolen from a business in McKinney.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information has been released.
