The crash happened at approximately 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the intersection of North Garland Avenue and Apollo Road, according to the Garland Police Department.

Police said the 12-year-old was crossing the street in the crosswalk with his electric scooter when he was struck by a white utility-style work truck.

Driver Stopped Briefly Before Leaving, Police Say

According to investigators, the driver initially stopped after striking the child but then left the scene, traveling south on North Garland Avenue.

Police described the vehicle as a white, four-door utility-style work truck with storage compartments along the sides of the truck bed.

The driver was described as possibly being a heavy-set man with a short, buzz-cut-style haircut.

Investigators believe the truck had been traveling east on Apollo Road before turning south onto North Garland Avenue.

Garland Police are specifically asking motorists who were in the area around 8:30 a.m. Saturday to review their dashcam footage. Video could have captured the truck either before or after the collision and potentially provide investigators with identifying information.
