RICHARDSON, Texas — A suspect accused of robbing a store and then shooting at a police officer is in custody after an officer-involved shooting in Richardson on Monday afternoon.
Detectives identified the suspect as 38-year-old Jarvis Martel Hamlin.
Police said the incident began around 4 p.m. May 4 at an AT&T retail store in the 1400 block of East Belt Line Road. Hamlin allegedly entered the store, displayed a handgun and robbed multiple employees before leaving on foot.
Responding officers quickly located Hamlin walking along the sidewalk in the 1500 block of East Belt Line Road. When officers issued commands for him to stop, police said Hamlin turned toward an officer, raised a handgun and fired.
An officer returned fire, striking Hamlin multiple times.
Officers took Hamlin into custody and provided immediate medical aid until Richardson Fire Department paramedics arrived. He was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition. The firearm involved was recovered at the scene.
Hamlin is facing charges of aggravated robbery and attempted capital murder of a peace officer. He has a history of arrests in Dallas County. He was arrested about 2 weeks ago on April 19th and charged with Criminal Trespassing. In May, 2025, he was arrested on a probation violation after being convicted of Fraud and Theft.
The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives are asking anyone with video footage of the incident to contact Richardson police at 972-744-4893.
The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent review of the officer-involved shooting, in line with standard protocol. The officer involved, a 10-year veteran of the department, has been placed on administrative leave.
