Suspect in Custody After Armed Standoff at Fire Scene in Richland Hills

RICHLAND HILLS, Texas — A man is in custody following an armed standoff at a residence that is also the focus of an ongoing arson investigation, according to the Richland Hills Police Department.

Officers were dispatched around 4:34 p.m. Monday, May 4, to the 2800 block of Dogwood Park Drive after receiving a report of a male trespassing inside a home. Authorities said the residence had restricted access due to a fire that occurred Saturday, May 2, and was still under active investigation.

Additional information indicated the suspect was armed and had pointed a firearm out of a window. Responding officers, with assistance from the Haltom City Police Department, quickly secured the area and established a perimeter.

Police initiated contact with the suspect and began negotiations. After a brief standoff, officers deployed a less-lethal device, prompting the suspect to exit the home. He was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect was evaluated by paramedics at the scene before being transported to the Joint Detention Center in North Richland Hills.

Investigators said the individual is also considered a suspect in the May 2 fire at the same location. The fire remains under investigation by the Tarrant County Fire Marshal’s Office.

As a result of Monday’s incident, the suspect faces multiple pending charges, including criminal trespass, deadly conduct and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Authorities said his identity and booking photo will be released after he is formally magistrated.

Police emphasized that the situation was resolved safely, with no reported injuries to officers or civilians.

The case remains active as investigators continue working to determine the full circumstances surrounding both the standoff and the earlier fire.
