JOHNSON COUNTY, Texas — A wanted man was shot by law enforcement officers Saturday after a vehicle pursuit ended in a crash and an armed confrontation, according to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said they received a BOLO alert on May 16, 2026, regarding Joseph Michael Boy, who was reportedly wanted on multiple outstanding warrants.
Authorities said information received by investigators indicated Boy had allegedly threatened to engage in a shootout with law enforcement rather than return to prison.
Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety located Boy and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but investigators said he fled, leading officers on a pursuit.
Deputies with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the chase.
Officials said the pursuit ended after officers used a PIT maneuver, causing the suspect vehicle to crash.
During efforts to take Boy into custody, authorities said he produced a firearm and was subsequently shot by officers.
Boy was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials said his condition has not been released.
No officers were injured during the incident.
Authorities said the investigation will be handled by the Texas Rangers in accordance with standard protocol involving officer-involved shootings.
