Beginning Nov. 1, Irving Public Library (IPL) will implement a non-Irving resident fee for library and computer access cards. IPL is instituting this fee in response to an increased demand for library services and materials, and reductions in state funding. Irving residents with valid proof of residency are entitled to all IPL services at no cost. Full-access library cards to IPL customers who are non-residents will be available on an annual basis for $40 or a computer access card for $10.
“Regardless of where you live, everyone is welcome to visit any Irving Public Library and take advantage of the many programs we offer,” said Library Director Chris Dobson. “Non-residents who would like to check out items from the Irving Public Library’s extensive collection, remotely access our online resources or use our on-site computers will have to secure a full-access library card or a computer access card on an annual basis.”
To sign up as a new customer or renew library access cards, patrons may present the required identification to any IPL location during normal business hours. As part of this new policy, Irving residents and existing customers also will have to provide acceptable forms of identification with proof of address to renew library cards on an annual basis.
IPL customers have access to a variety of online resources, as well as four full-service locations offering more than a million books, videos, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks, ebooks and downloadable audiobooks. In addition, computer access cards entitle holders to two computer sessions a day, for up to two hours a day.
