FORT WORTH, Texas - A homicide investigation is underway after a man was fatally stabbed Saturday night in Fort Worth, and the suspected attacker later approached a police officer and reportedly admitted involvement.
According to the Fort Worth Police Department, officers assigned to the Central Division were dispatched at approximately 10:30 p.m. on May 30 to the 2400 block of Lillian Street for a reported assault.
When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from at least one apparent stab wound.
Officers and personnel from the Fort Worth Fire Department provided emergency medical care, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police initially were unable to locate a suspect.
About an hour later, at approximately 11:50 p.m., a man approached a Fort Worth police officer in the 2500 block of Northeast 28th Street and stated that he believed he had stabbed someone.
The individual was detained and transported back to the crime scene as investigators continued their investigation.
Detectives with the department's homicide unit responded and are working to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal altercation.
Authorities said the incident appears to be isolated and there is no known ongoing threat to the public.
The victim's identity has not been released. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the official cause and manner of death and confirm the victim's identity.
The investigation remains ongoing.
