Blood Trail Near Lake Grove Park in Midlothian Leads to Wounded Teen

MIDLOTHIAN, Texas - A 17-year-old male was injured Monday evening following a reported shooting near Lake Grove Park in Midlothian, according to police.

The Midlothian Police Department responded at approximately 6:04 p.m. on June 1 to the 1000 block of Hawkins Run Road after receiving a report of a possible shooting.

According to police, telecommunicators with the North Ellis Emergency Dispatch Center received a call from a citizen who reported hearing a single gunshot before observing approximately 20 individuals running from the Hawkins Run entrance of Lake Grove Park.

The caller reported that several individuals fled west toward Coleman Elementary School and noted that one person appeared to be bleeding from the hand.

Officers arrived on scene within minutes and discovered what appeared to be a trail of blood along a sidewalk extending from Lake Grove Park to Coleman Elementary School.

Police secured the area, and investigators with the Midlothian Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division responded to process the scene.

During the investigation, detectives collected evidence, including a shell casing recovered near the scene.

Investigators later identified a 17-year-old male who sustained a non-life-threatening injury. The teen was treated at a local hospital.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting or whether any suspects have been identified.

Police said the investigation remains active and ongoing. Based on the information available at this time, investigators do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.

Lake Grove Park remains open.
