LEWISVILLE, Texas - A Lewisville man was arrested on intoxication and weapons charges after officers found him asleep behind the wheel of a truck stopped at a green light early in the morning.
According to the Lewisville Police Department, officers were patrolling the 800 block of State Highway 121 Frontage Road at approximately 4:10 a.m. on May 26, 2026, when they observed a pickup truck stopped at a green traffic signal.
As officers passed the vehicle, they noticed the driver appeared to be unconscious behind the wheel.
Concerned for the driver's welfare and the safety of other motorists, officers turned around to investigate.
Police said they found the sole occupant asleep inside the truck. As a precaution, officers deployed a spike strip behind the vehicle's rear tires to prevent it from unintentionally driving away and causing a collision.
Authorities said officers activated their emergency lights and wore high-visibility traffic vests while attempting to make contact with the driver.
The driver eventually woke up but allegedly attempted to flee despite officers repeatedly ordering him to place the vehicle in park.
Because the rear tires had been punctured by the spike strip, the truck was unable to travel far, police said.
Officers continued issuing commands for the driver to exit the vehicle, but he refused. Investigators said that when officers entered the truck, the driver attempted to shift the vehicle back into drive before being safely taken into custody.
During a search of the vehicle, officers located a firearm underneath the driver's seat.
The driver was arrested and charged with:
- Driving While Intoxicated (DWI)
- Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon
No injuries were reported during the incident.
