Irving Earns Music Friendly Texas Certified Community Designation

IRVING, Texas — The City of Irving has officially been recognized as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community, joining a statewide program designed to strengthen local music industries and promote economic development through the arts.

The Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office, within the Office of the Governor, announced the designation after Irving completed the Texas Music Office's multi-step certification process.

The Music Friendly Texas program, launched in 2016, was the first statewide initiative of its kind in the nation. The program encourages music-related business development, job creation, and support for local artists and entertainment venues.

"Congratulations to the City of Irving on earning the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation," Gov. Greg Abbott said. "With support from the Texas Music Office, the Texas music industry accounts for more than 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31 billion in annual economic activity statewide."

State and local leaders praised the designation, highlighting Irving's investment in arts and entertainment.

Representative Rafael Anchía pointed to the city's growing music scene, including the recently renovated Toyota Music Factory and the Irving Arts Center, which attracts more than 100,000 visitors annually.

"When a city invests in the arts, businesses grow, neighborhoods thrive, and people want to put down roots," Anchía said.

Irving Mayor Al Zapanta said the designation reflects the city's commitment to culture and community.

"The Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation is a recognition of Irving's commitment to creating a city where culture, creativity, and community thrive together," Zapanta said. "Music has a unique ability to bring people together."

Irving City Councilman David Pfaff noted that music plays a central role in many of the city's signature events, including concerts at Toyota Music Factory, the Heritage Park summer concert series, and the annual Sparks & Stripes Fourth of July celebration.

"A Music Friendly Texas community is not defined by its venues, it is defined by its people," said Irving Music Friendly Texas Advisory Board member Bear Kidwill. "This designation recognizes the musicians, businesses, community leaders, and residents who make Irving a place where music can thrive."

The official Music Friendly Texas certification ceremony will take place during Irving's Sparks & Stripes Fourth of July Celebration on Friday, July 3, at 7:50 p.m. at Levy Event Plaza, 501 E. Las Colinas Blvd.
