DALLAS COUNTY, Texas - The Dallas County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help identifying the driver of a van involved in a fatal hit-and-run that killed a truck driver on Interstate 20 early Wednesday.
According to the sheriff's office, traffic deputies responded at approximately 12:22 a.m. on July 15 to a major crash on eastbound Interstate 20 between Dowdy Ferry Road and St. Augustine Road.
The preliminary investigation determined that the driver of an 18-wheeler had stopped on the shoulder after experiencing mechanical problems. A second truck driver arrived to assist by delivering a replacement part.
While the driver of the disabled truck was outside repairing the vehicle, investigators said a van traveled onto the shoulder and struck him.
The driver of the van continued eastbound on Interstate 20 without stopping.
Investigators believe the suspect vehicle is a white or light-colored Chevrolet Express or GMC Savana van, model years 2003 through 2026.
The vehicle is expected to have damage to the right side, including a missing front-right turn signal lamp.
The crash is believed to have occurred between 12:10 a.m. and 12:25 a.m. on July 15.
The Dallas County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who witnessed the crash, saw a van matching the description, or has dash camera or surveillance footage from the area during that time to contact Detective Espino with the Vehicle Crimes Unit at 214-589-2323.
The investigation remains ongoing.
