PLANO, Texas. A Plano police detective shot a burglary suspect early Wednesday after the suspect allegedly opened fire on officers during a surveillance operation, authorities said.
According to the Plano Police Department, detectives were conducting surveillance on July 22 when they observed a burglary in progress in the 4600 block of International Parkway.
At approximately 4:20 a.m., detectives made contact with four suspects. Police said one of the suspects immediately fired at the detectives, prompting the officers to return fire.
One suspect was struck an unknown number of times during the exchange. Detectives immediately rendered medical aid before Plano Fire-Rescue transported the suspect to a local hospital. The suspect was undergoing surgery, and their condition was not immediately available.
A second suspect was also transported to a local hospital with an injury of unknown origin. Police said that suspect is expected to recover.
Authorities said one of the suspects is an adult and the remaining three are juveniles. Their identities are being withheld at this time.
No officers or other individuals were reported injured during the incident.
In accordance with department policy, the detective involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
The officer-involved shooting is being jointly investigated by the Plano Police Department's Professional Standards Unit, the Carrollton Police Department and the Denton County District Attorney's Office.
The investigation remains ongoing.
