FORT WORTH, Texas - The Fort Worth Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left an armed man dead Sunday morning after officers responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a west Fort Worth apartment complex.
According to police, officers were dispatched at approximately 6:15 a.m. on July 26 after receiving reports that a known adult male had forced his way through the front door of an apartment.
Dispatch information indicated the man was armed with a knife and was involved in a verbal and physical altercation with an adult woman inside the residence.
When officers arrived, they encountered the suspect in the apartment complex parking lot holding a knife to his own throat.
Police said officers repeatedly ordered the man to drop the knife, but he refused to comply. Instead, the suspect continued walking toward officers while still armed with the knife.
At least one officer fired a weapon, striking the suspect.
Officers immediately rendered medical aid with assistance from the Fort Worth Fire Department. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
No officers or civilians were injured during the incident.
The Fort Worth Police Department's Major Case Unit is leading the investigation and is working to determine the events that led to the reported domestic disturbance and the subsequent officer-involved shooting.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office will identify the deceased after notification of next of kin and determine the official cause and manner of death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
