ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police are searching for the driver of a red pickup truck who fatally shot another motorist at a busy intersection before fleeing the scene, according to investigators.
Officers responded at approximately 8:43 p.m. Friday, July 24, to the intersection of Highlander Boulevard and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive after receiving multiple reports of gunfire.
When officers arrived, they found a blue pickup truck that had left the roadway and come to rest in a grassy area near the southwest corner of the intersection after striking a tree.
The driver, identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office as 54-year-old Roberto Leos-Alvarez, was found unresponsive inside the truck with multiple apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A dog that was inside the pickup was not injured.
Witnesses told investigators the shooting began after two pickup trucks stopped next to each other at a traffic light. According to witnesses, a person in a red pickup truck fired five to six shots at the driver of the blue truck before fleeing westbound on Highlander Boulevard.
The blue pickup then rolled forward and struck a tree.
One witness said they attempted to render aid to Leos-Alvarez before an off-duty police officer from nearby Dave & Buster's arrived to assist.
Detectives are following multiple investigative leads but have not announced any arrests.
